We have an update on a scoundrel we reported on in season 3 – Fat Leonard.

You may remember that he wined and dined Navy brass to get lucrative contracts. It took some time, but he got caught.

Fat Leonard has been on the lam in Venezuela and thought he was about to be released from jail there, when it turned out he was handed over to the U.S. as part of a prisoner swap.

The Washington Post says “He texted his mother from a Caracas prison to let her know that Venezuelan officials had promised to release him from custody to receive medical treatment and that he expected to win his complete freedom by the end of the year.”

So, Leonard, how does it feel for a con to be conned?

At this writing, he was in Miami and the Post says, “In the coming days, the Malaysian defense contractor is expected to be transferred to San Diego so he can finally be sentenced – nine years after he pleaded guilty to federal bribery and fraud charges – for masterminding the most extensive corruption case in U.S. military history.”
